After a well-documented controversy in 1996 when SVT's Cobra fell short of its advertised horsepower figures, the team returned in 1999 with a revised 4.6-liter DOHC 32-valve V8 rated at 320 horsepower — a figure that independent testing of the time generally confirmed or exceeded. Ford also addressed the independent rear suspension setup, which in earlier Cobras had come in for criticism, and the 1999 car was widely regarded as the most sorted and capable SN95 Cobra to date when it was introduced. The convertible body style adds another layer of desirability. Open-top Cobras were built in smaller numbers than their coupe counterparts, making them less common in the collector market today. SVT's version used four-valve-per-cylinder heads, a revised intake manifold, and a higher compression ratio to produce 320 horsepower and 317 lb-ft of torque. The engine cover wears the Cobra snake emblem, and the valve covers are clearly marked 'V8 32 Valve,' just as they left the factory. The engine bay in the photos is honest and intact — original components, no evidence of modifications, and the SVT badging on the intake is present and correct. Backing the V8 is the Tremec T45 5-speed manual, a robust close-ratio gearbox that SVT specified for its shift feel and durability. The T45 was a meaningful upgrade over the T-5 used in earlier Mustangs. It handled torque loads more confidently and gave drivers a more direct, mechanical feel through the gate.
